some pictures lately

here are a few pictures. there's not many, but it's not because i haven't been taking pictures. quite the opposite, in fact.

i found a feature that shoots up to 10 shots back-to-back rapidfire. i documented a ride on the el and set it to music, like a video. but now it's stuck in a powerpoint presentation and i can't upload it.

i'm working on that. and a similar project, but set to all american rejects (the one i already have is set to jose gonzalez - crosses).

lsd, cab, sunrise

a frantic cab ride to work, i was already late, but it was so beautiful i couldn't help but be impressed

lsd, cab, sunrise

i love that i caught the cab driver's reflection

lsd, cab, sunrise

the sun reflecting off the building through the trees looks like lights in the park

lsd, cab, sunrise

the lake, bare tree branches and cold blue make me feel freezing, but the burst of yellow makes me feel warm. it was quite cold that morning.

lower wacker, lighting, contrast

i wish this had come out just a tad more crisp, but as it is i love the harsh white of the flourescent next to the harsh yellow of the tungsten.

the next 7 days

i honestly didn't mean for that to happen with the titles, being so dramatic and all. it just happened that i blogged about pictures when those time frames were available.

there are a few explanations here, so including those with thumbnails will just about max out my patience for HTML tonight.

here goes.

me, siblad

something about the composition of this picture makes it really compelling. not to mention that it's of me. i like how i look, but i also really like the clarity and the lighting.

01.18.08 016

me, siblad

the fact that one image came in fairly strong, and the fainter ghost image is so much softer, makes this almost eerie. and again, i love the lighting.

01.18.08 (02) 012

perspective, auto settings, abstract, household

i really enjoy how the proximity to the object, as well as the colors, make it super-surreal. the camera did a nice job balancing the purple plastic with the fluorescent light on the silver paint in the background, as well as adjusting for the fluorescent's tint.

01.21.08 026
leland, kenmore, daylight, colors, shutter, blur, exposure

this is a new setting i've never played with before. it's called "+/- Exp" and basically i think it adjusts the exposure length and adjusts the aperture automatically.

this is as opposed to the "Tv" setting, which allows you to adjust the shutter length (up to minutes, i think) and the camera tries to adjust the aperture automatically, although i don't think it's as good.

i like the fact that the background colors appear washed out, but the stop sign's red and the yellows still came out pretty boldly.

the first 15 days

these are the highlights of my first 15 days. yes, today is the 18th (technically, the 19th, but i'm still on the "wake" from the 18th) but i only have the first 15 days' on my hard drive.

on the initial publication, it's just the photos, but i hope i'll have some time to come back and add more details about each one.

welcome to my year in pictures

odds are, you are someone i know. hi lion scouts. hi courtyard. hi cps. hi diK.

you all know the last year was crazy for me. well, i'm gonna get into a habit. i'm taking pictures every day of 2008. it's one thing, one thing, i'll do every day.

well, one of a few things. i do bathe every day.

i wasn't originally going to blog these pictures. they were going to be "just for me." just to build some practice with operating my camera, and developing an appreciation for technique, a style. but then i figured, hey, writing about them could be helpful too.

so, herewith, my favourite photos from this year. not necessarily a favourite every day, but often enough i hope.

cheers,
kevin
