the right light

makes all the difference.

good weather in chicago has been a surprising aphrodisiac as of late. here's to hoping it continues.

bands of light and dark along the lake; shadows created by towers on lakeshore drive.

looking down huron st from michigan ave towards the lake; sunrise; i love the orange burst as well as the facade of the building on the right.

my lens cover doesn't retract all the way sometimes. i can't tell if i like this picture better in portrait or its original landscape; maybe the picture should be as twisted as the tree trunk?

lots of me

major landmarks in recent weeks:

my book is [closer to being] done [than ever before]. ignore the bracketed portions, and that's a big deal.

it's also been spring break, one week at a time, for 3 weeks straight, for various regions across the country and around the world. the hotel has been running on overdrive. my manager reviewed security footage from the weekend looking to track a package delivery, and was stunned at the grueling volume of traffic we'd had to handle in his absence.

some days, most nights, my pictures of the day have been taken in the last 60 to 90 minutes of the day, just to satisfy the obligation. they're not great, but you try taking 365+ pictures. not all of them will be.

my favourite day was march 13, by far. for whatever reason, i was in a particularly photographic (and photogenic) mood. i took 271 pictures that day, most but by no means all of them of me. those pictures are marked with an *.

i also recently printed business cards with this blog url on one side, and a variety of pictures on the other. it was fun to pick 12 different pictures to represent what iv'e taken so far. i look forward to handing them to people, or leaving them in odd places to be found.

cityscapes

when you are in the locker room at work, and you're getting ready for a day you'll dread, it's nice to have something pretty to look at.

these pictures are more about the reflection in the glasses than me, so they're in cityscapes.

me

writing in my journal at work. man i hate that uniform. i think that was the last time i'd ever wear the vest.

for these 3, i was rocking out in my bedroom and taking random pictures

social experimentation

riding the el, i took pictures of the floor and watched how people oriented themselves in the car. i also ended up taking a lot of pictures of people's arms and shoulders, and even managed to sneak a few faces too, but for the most part i just wanted to see how people stood near strangers.
